ISLAMABAD, April 17: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) handed over a Mobile Service Unit (MSU) to the Ministry of Population Welfare here on Thursday to provide Reproductive Health and Family Planning Services to under-served communities in far-flung areas in Chakwal district.

According to a press release, the MSU is a first model vehicle out of 10 model units, which has been designed and will be handed over to ministry under the UNFPA‘s sixth country programme. The remaining 9 vehicles will be handed over to those selected districts in which government of Pakistan/UNFPA are working for providing quality reproductive health facilities to the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdur Rashid Khan, the secretary, Ministry of Population Welfare, observed that this vehicle was one of the tangible outputs of the programme, which will go a long way in bridging the gap in demand and supply of family planning and reproductive health services, especially in rural and far-flung areas.

Dr Olivier Brassuer, the country representative of UNFPA, hoped that the MSUs would help in redesigning the provision of health services approach by bringing them to the door steps of communities in need.
