KASUR Five people allegedly cut the nose and ears of a woman over a match issue here at Zafarkay village on Monday while the mother of the victim died of the shock after seeing her daughter in a pool of blood, police said.

Amanat, Sher Muhammad and three unidentified people held hostage 18-year-old Fazeelat Bibi, a worker at the brick kiln in Zafarkay in the Sadar Raiwind police precincts, and tried to strangle her with a chord. Later, they chopped Fazeelat's nose and ears with a sharp edged weapon.

Other brick kiln workers came to rescue her. Saida Bibi, the mother of Fazeelat, died when she saw her daughter drenched in blood.

On the complaint of Bashir Ahmed, the father of Fazeelat, police registered a case under sections 324, 334, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code and arrested Amanat and Sher Muhammad who are stated to be cousins of Fazeelat. Police said Amanat had proposed Fazeelat which she had turned down.
