ISLAMABAD In a rare move Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has praised Punjab Police officials for arresting a double murder accused who had escaped to Dubai and was declared as a proclaimed offender.

A full bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry praised the efforts of the DPO Sheikhupura, SSP Sohail Zafar Chattha, who acting on a Supreme Court directive one week ago tricked the accused into returning to Pakistan and arrested him.

In a suo motu hearing of the murder of two brothers in January last year, the Supreme Court was informed by Sohail Zafar Chattha that the main accused, who had escaped to Dubai, had now been arrested.

The DPO of Sheikhupura said the accused Akhtar Islam was tricked into returning to Pakistan from Dubai and arrested on arrival.

Akhtar Islam, who had been declared a proclaimed offender by the trial court, had been at large since January last year after having been accused of murdering the two brothers.

The chief justice praised the police officer for his hard work and in a directive to the Punjab Police chief appreciated SSP Chattha's work as an example for other police officers.
