THATTA, April 20 Lawyers, litigants and civil society members have expressed their concern over proposed shifting of the court of senior civil judge from Sujawal to Thatta with the demand to retain it and also establish court of additional session judge here.

The appellants, through a number of press statements, asserted that Sujawal is a junction with eight police stations and more than 300,000 residents with only one village, Ibrahim Chalko, covering over 193km in Jati taluka near Rann of Kutch, while another, Atherki is 122km away from Sujawal town. Its sub-division comprises of six union councils in Sujawal, the same number in Jati, five in Shah Bandar, eight in Mirpur Bathoro and one in deltaic town Kharochan. There is one constituency of the National Assembly and three of provincial in the sub-division.

Appellants argue that almost every sub-division in Sindh has courts of additional session judges while it regretted that the only existing court of senior civil judge is being shifted to Thatta instead of setting up court of additional session judge to this sub division. The reasons are yet not known.

They have appealed to the Chief Justice Sindh High court to stop shifting of the court of senior civil judge to Thatta and also provide a court of additional session judge for Sujawal for minimising problems of litigants as Thatta is far away and incurs heavy transport charges.
