KARACHI, Aug 20 The Pakistan Navy has extended its search and rescue operation to Punjab by providing two Seaking helicopters to the Punjab government to conduct search and rescue missions in Multan where a large number of people have been stranded and devastated in the unprecedented floods.

The Sindh government has also requested the PN Coastal Command to dispatch relief teams to Garhi Khairo, Jacobabad where floodwater has entered into these areas and complete inundation is imminent.

Meanwhile, tented cities established by the Pakistan Navy in Khairpur and Jacobabad areas have started registration and accommodation of people evacuated from flood-affected areas of Sindh. Until now, 350 families have been accommodated in these camps. Internally displaced persons are being provided with food and other relief goods by the PN relief teams operating in the affected areas.

As navy's operation “Madad” continues in the flood-affected areas, its rescue teams have shifted 1,000 stranded people to safety.

In Nawabshah, six rescue teams evacuated 280 people. Rescue team deployed in Shikarpur, evacuated 550 people. Some 80 victims were rescued from Jacobabad by two PN rescue teams operating in the area.

Until now, the total number of evacuations has reached up to 103,200. Evacuation from Nawabshah is likely to be completed in a day.

Six search and rescue teams have been deployed in Sujawal from coastal units.

Three rescue teams have also been deployed in Larkana and Kamber Shahdadkot district.
