MARDAN, March 1 An outlaw was killed and a constable suffered injuries in an encounter in the Gujjar Garhi area here in the small hours of Sunday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Waqif Khan, while addressing a press conference at Saddar Police Station on Sunday, said that acting on information the police raided a house in the Gujjar Garhi area to capture proclaimed offender Naveed. The raid was headed by DSP Ashfaq Khan.

He said that seeing the police, the outlaw fired on them, which was returned.

The DPO said that the outlaw, Naveed, was killed, while constable Fazal Rabbi was wounded during the encounter. The exchange of fire continued for over an hour.

The DPO claimed that Naveed was a notorious gangster and was involved in more than 20 criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, robberies and kidnapping for ransom. He said that police had earlier arrested his brother-in-law Ilham Khan and brother Zulifat Khan.
