KOHAT, Feb 21 Militants damaged the building of the Kohat Garrison Club in a rocket attack here on Saturday.

The militants fired two rockets at the Cantonment which hit the army club and an orchard in Jarwanda areas. The roof of the club and window panes were shattered in the attack.

Meanwhile, three persons including a soldier of the Frontier Corpse (FC) were injured in different incidents. A gardener, Gul Mohammad, was injured when a rocket hit the orchard.

A man was injured during the firing of security forces while fifteen tribesmen were held following an attack on a security forces' vehicle. A bomb planted by militants exploded when the vehicle was passing by on the Kohat Tunnel bypass in Darra Adamkhel. A FC man was injured in the attack.

The security forces retaliated as a result one resident Saifullah, sitting in a shop in Darra bazaar, was injured. The FC personnel immediately launched a search operation in the Zarghunkhel area and arrested the tribesmen working in the fields close to the site of the blast of the improvised explosive device.

Security forces also pounded the suspected hideouts of militants in Darra Adamkhel in the Bostikhel area with artillery fire from Kohat side. Gunship helicopters were also sent to the Darra Adamkhel mountain areas to hit the hideouts of militants, officials said.

Security was further tightened after the attacks in the cantonment and the city area where Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) was being observed. Small planes were also used for aerial security and filming of the procession. The bazaars remained closed on the occasion.

The police seized a pistol and 27 cartridges from a man during the procession and was booked for violating ban on carrying of arms under Section 144. He was shifted to a police station for interrogation. He was identified as Shaban Ali, resident of Kachai village of Kohat.
