KOHAT, Dec 7 The Jamaat-i-Islami threatened on Sunday to forcibly stop supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan after holding an anti-US rally on Dec 18.

According to a press release, JI deputy amir, NWFP, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan told a workers' convention in Karak district that the rally would be led by party chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed.

He said by allowing the supplies through NWFP the federal and provincial governments had in fact challenged the honour of the Pakhtuns. He alleged that the Pakistani government was supporting the anti-Pakhtun forces which could not be tolerated by the nation any more.

NAZIM SUSPENDED NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has given his consent to the suspension of the Tehsil Kohat Nazim Dilbar Khan after an enquiry held him responsible for causing losses to the exchequer worth millions of rupees and violating the Local Government Ordinance and committing other irregularities.

According to the APP news agency, in September 2007, an enquiry was ordered by the chairman of the Local Government Commission and the local government minister on a complaint by the members of the Tehsil Council Kohat against the nazim.

The enquiry held him responsible for irregularities of millions of rupees in loading and unloading taxes, misuse of Jinnah Plaza receipts and reappointment of 68 terminated employees of the Kohat tehsil municipal authority without concurrence of the local government department.

The inquiry report says the local government department believes the tehsil nazim has failed in carrying out the business of the municipal administration in accordance with law and rules.

OUTLAWS HELD The Kohat police on Sunday raised the security to red alert and arrested 26 anti-social elements and recovered arms from them during a search operation to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

Extra police force was deployed at all the sensitive places, including mosques and imambargahs. Security was also beefed up at all the entry points along the border with the tribal areas.

The search operation was carried out in Nusrat Khel, Mohammadzai, Jarma, Togh, Bilitang, Ghorzandi and Gumbat areas. The seizure from the criminals included 2 Kalashnikovs, 2 repeaters, 4 shotguns, 6 rifles, 10 pistols and 5 kg of hashish. — Correspondent
