KARACHI, April 2 Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at the Governor's House and reviewed the solid waste management project in Karachi.

State Minister Saleem H. Mandiwala, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, DCO Karachi Javed Hanif and representatives of the Chinese firm interested in taking on the solid waste management project attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the reasons why work was not initiated by the Chinese company as per the accord.

Representatives of the company assured the participants of the meeting that the final timeframe of the project would be submitted by Friday, including the establishment of garbage transfer stations.

The meeting was informed that a $200 million soft loan from China would be earmarked for the project.

It may be noted that the federal government would make the final decision about the project after the satisfaction of the CDGK.

The Sindh governor asserted that the government is making serious efforts to enable the project to take off in Karachi, and wanted its immediate implementation.

Mustafa Kamal expressed gratitude to the governor and the federal government for taking interest in the project.—PPI
