ISLAMABAD, April 24: President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday welcomed Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s initiative for resumption of talks between India and Pakistan, and hoped that it was a genuine gesture.

He said: “I do not want to say anything more. It is a good beginning. Nobody has won and nobody has lost. Both have won. Frankly, I think Mr Vajpayee’s gesture is genuine and I hope that it is genuine”.

Speaking at a meeting with newspaper editors and senior journalists here, he said Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali did the right thing by responding to the offer of talks promptly. “I see light and we must go forward on this.”
