ISLAMABAD Yasir Khan and Ushna Sohail lifted the men's and ladies singles trophies by winning their respective finals of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court tennis championship at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex on Monday.

Ushna thrashed Sara Mahboob in straight sets.

She told Dawn after the match “I was playing reasonably well against Sara as she was completely unmoved over my few good shots.”

“I was confident right from the start of the game because it was my day,” insisted Ushna, who has also won the U-18 title.

Yasir created an upset, defeating brother Aqeel Khan 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Samir Iftikhar crushed the hopes of Heera Ashiq in the boys' U-18 final.

Heera, a left hander, who also had an edge of playing on his home court, failed to contain some good down the line winners and better back-hand shots of emerging Samir.

“I tried my best against my competitor [Heera],” said 18-year-old Samir, who was born in British county Surrey.

In the boy's U-14 category, Mohammad Mudassar hammered Talal Almas 4-1, 4-2 while the double's category was lifted by Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan.

Shields and cash prize of Rs230,000 were distributed among the players.
