KARACHI The revival of basketball in the country is on the anvil as the two warring officials of the yore have reunited to bring about a possible change in the set-up of Pakistan Amateur Basketball Federation.

“We have reached consensus in the larger interest of the game after the popular sport hit rock bottom during the last decade,” former stalwart of the game, Rashid Malik, said on Friday after several deliberations with another former international Khalid Bashir.

The veteran player who has also served as secretary PABF said they have apprised the President of the POA and director general of the PSB about the deteriorating standard of game and their plans for revival.

Pakistan, a former Asian No 5, finished last but one in the South Asian Games held at Dhaka.

He said the PABF elections are due in the near future and may bring genuine people at the helm of affairs. “All the 17 affiliated units of the PABF have assured us of their support,” he added.

He regretted that all the four genuine provincial associations which are affiliated with their respective Olympic bodies were not recognised by the PABF.

The PABF, he added, has ruined the sporting career of tens and thousands of youthful players.
