KARACHI, April 2 Tennis activity resumes in the city after a layoff when a Sindh ranking tournament takes place at Beach View Club synthetic courts from April 16, organisers announced on Friday.
The event, which is an annual feature, carries a lucrative prize money of Rs75,000 which shows an increase of 150 percent by the sponsor. A sum of Rs30,000 was at stake last year.
According to the Sindh Tennis Association (STA), this will be the first super series event in terms of prize money. The STA organises grade A and B tournaments having prize money of Rs20,000 to Rs59,000 and less then Rs20,000.
The events to be contested during the weeklong competition include men's singles, ladies singles, juniors under-17 singles, boys under-15 singles, boys and girls under-13 singles, boys under-11 singles, boys under-9 singles, men's doubles and boys under-15 doubles.
The last date for the submission of entries is April 14. The tournament ends on April 23.—Sports Correspondent
