LAHORE, Jan 19 Sher-e-Sialkot, a four-year-old chestnut colt, looks set to win when the midweek Lahore Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The colt from an unknown pedigree, Sher-e-Sialkot had registered a facile victory in the D.I. Khan Plate, class VII division IV contested over 900 metres.
He has now been promoted to class VII division II and III combined to be gone over 1,000 metres. The way Sher-e-Sialkot registered his career's first success, last week he should have no difficulty in making it two wins in-a-row.
Sher-e-Sialkot's closest rivals could be Jal Thal (formerly Tanjal), and Sensational. This will be the second race in racing order.
All in all, six events have been drawn up, all races to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres. The opener begins at 1.00pm.
The feature event, the Sahiwal Plate class VI division II-B has nine acceptors and of them at least half-a-dozen are on chance.
Going by on recent form and performance in races, the number can be reduced to four - Deluxe, Daizzy Against All, Jogi and Rough Tough.
They should fight it out with Daizzy Against All having an edge after a narrow win on her last outing. This will be the sixth and last race in racing order.
The third race should provide the racing fans plenty to cheer about. Raj Babu is fancied to make it three wins in-a-row. The blue-roan horse is speedy enough to complete a hat-trick of wins, provided he is guided by the rider to run straight on the shortest route. The case was different previously, but in spite of that he won.
Good Idea, Umair Prince and Bashayeash Prince are the pick of nine runners left-in as acceptors for the fifth and supporting event.
Chestnut mare Good Idea is faster of the three but bay horse Bashayeash Prince has advantage in the weight scales. His owner is a clever guy, who is always on the look out to have a go when his horses are pitched against those who are odds-on favourite. The fourth race has a small field of seven runners.
With three runners demoted from class VI division III and IV- to class VII division I, namely, Imran Choice, Quick and Victory Tiger, only four contestants are left to decide about the winner.
It is owners' general code of ethic that on demotion from one class to lower class horses on first run are often given an easy run to justify demotion and if any horse wins it is considered a slap on the face of the handicapper or the supervisor of the handicapping because the demotion are not made on merit.
J. Prince, Bash Baby and King's UK are the chance horses in the first race comprising 13 runners barring last-minute withdrawals. This should finish in the same order.
