ISLAMABAD, June 23 Sara Mahboob overpowered a late scare of Sara Mansoor by playing some good drop shots in the final and clinched the trophy of the Pakistan Master Invitational Women's tennis championship at the PTF Tennis Complex here on Tuesday.

At the centre court of the Complex, Sara Mansoor opened the match by gaining two straight points, however, Sara Mahboob recovered swiftly.

Sara Mahboob won the first set 6-2, breaking third and seventh games of Sara Mansoor.

However, a moral boosting support from Sara Mansoor's family helped her to make a stunning comeback in the second set.

She initially built up 5-0 lead, breaking second and fourth games of Sara Mahboob, and surprised her opponent, who is an experienced player having good international exposure, winning the second set 6-1.

In front of a good crowd, Sara Mansoor, however could not contain her aggression in the third set and lost it 3-6.

Sara Mahboob, after winning the championship, told Dawn “I want to play more tennis in the coming months, especially international events.”

Commenting on the final, she said “Sara [Mansoor] played well in the second set but I made a good recovery and took the title.”

Sara Mahboob was awarded Rs15,000 along with the winning trophy and certificate whereas Sara Mansoor received Rs8,000 and a shield.

Meanwhile, in the juniors' event, Waqas Malik of Lahore annexed the singles title beating Faizan Khurram in a well-contested three-set match.

In the first set, the score went up to 4-4 and both the players held their respective services. However, Waqas displayed good volley game and broke the service of Faizan winning the first set 6-4.

Faizan bounced back and clinched the second set 6-3, breaking the seventh game and played consistent game from the baseline.

Waqas, however, changed his strategy in the final set keeping his first serve and started attacking on the net, breaking the seventh game of Faizan winning it 6-3.

Waqas was awarded cash prize of Rs10,000 along with a shield and certificate while Faizan pocketed Rs5,000.
