Saad, Arif share SSB Tennis trophy

KARACHI, Nov 24 The men's singles trophy was shared by the finalists, Saad Baloch (Hyderabad) and Arif Iftikhar, after play was stopped due to bad light in the Sindh Sports Board Open ranking tennis championship at the City Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Saad, who has represented the country in the tennis event of World University Games held at Izmir in 2006, won the opener 6-3 while Arif, a former Davis Cupper, neutralised by taking the next in a tie-break 7-6.

The two players were tied one-all in the decisive third set when bad light forced them to stop the play.

The juniors' under-17 title went to Omer Usman who accounted for Saud Shoaib 6-4, 6-3 in the final.

The boys' under-15 and boys and girls under-13 finals could not be completed due to bad light.

M. Raza Sawani bt Hassan Farooq 8-5.

Boys' under-15 doubles

Malik Hamza and Hassan Siddiqui bt Khawaja Hamza and Sarwan Memon 8-3.
