KARACHI, Nov 7 In a bid to unearth talented pugilists from all corners of the country, the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) is holding a National Ranking Open Boxing tournament from Nov 21-25.

“We want to put all the boxing talent on display through this event for the Cuban coach to pick the best combinations for various international events,” PBF Secretary Muhammad Akram Khan told reporters here on Saturday.

He said the PBF has approached Pakistan Steel for staging the ranking event and awaiting their reply. “We have requested Pakistan Steel management for providing accommodation and hall for the boxing ring,” he said.

Besides that, the PBF had also approached Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to send their units from across the country to take part in the ranking event.

Akram said that recently hired Cuban coach Francisco Hernendez Ronald is very keen to have a look at the boxers and to select some talented and courageous boys from the training camp.

Akram added that the national camp organized in preparations for various international events including next year's South Asian Games was gaining momentum.

Pakistan Air Force and Navy boxers have also joined the national boxing camp and are going through sparring and training drills. The Cuban coach has prepared a plan to train and coach the boys on modern lines with great stress on fitness, stamina and endurance.—APP
