KARACHI, Jan 25 Mubbashir Afridi beat Omer Shahid in three set duel to win the men's singles title of the Modern Club tennis tournament for members held at their premises the other day.
Mubbashir recovered after conceding the second set to post 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory.
Omer had some consolation as he gave a 6-3, 6-0 drubbing to Abdul Rehman to claim the juniors' under-18 crown.
The tennis final was preceded by competitions in snooker, table tennis and squash.
The annual event was revived after a lapse of many years by administrator of the club veteran hockey Olympian Abdul Waheed Khan who also managed the Buenos Aires gold medal winning Pakistan hockey team.
Davis Cuppers Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan are the product of Modern Club.
Dr Sattar Jaffer and Abdul Razzak Jaffer who graced the occasion gave away the prizes.
