Judo bodies clash

Published February 10, 2010

LAHORE, Feb 9 Samina Khan, president of her own faction of the Pakistan Women Judo Association (PWJA) has said that a court of law has initiated contempt of court proceedings against the president, secretary and other members of the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) for continuously violating its order by announcing the national judo championship for women that is currently scheduled to be held in Karachi from Feb 12.

Samina has stated through a written press statement that she had obtained a stay order from the court of law on July 23, 2009, restraining the president and other office-bearers of the PJF from interfering in the affairs of her faction.

“Unfortunately, the president and other office-bearers of the PJF violated the restraining orders of the honorable court and even held illegal and unconstitutional elections in order to form a bogus and parallel body of the PWJA filled with their own nominees,” she said.

“The members of the PJF have continued to violate the orders of the court and have now, in contravention of the court order, announced to hold the national women judo championship in Karachi from the Feb 12, 2010.”

The matter has been brought to the notice of the court, which initiated contempt of court proceedings against the president, secretary and other members of the PJF and the so-called office-bearers of the bogus PWJA.

“The court has issued summons to all concerned,” the press release concluded.
