Jr Hockey League begins today

KARACHI, Aug 31 The much-awaited Under-18 1st MCB Junior Hockey Super League explodes into action with hosts Karachi taking on Lahore in the inaugural match to be played at 9.30pm at the Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP) on Tuesday.

The match will be preceded by a Larkana-Quetta encounter at 5.30pm and is to be followed by another between Sialkot and Multan at 11.10pm.

The event boasting Rs2 million in prize money to be opened by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal will also witness a spectacular fireworks display before the inaugural match at 9.00pm.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rains in the city the press conference to be held by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Qasim Zia at the HCP on Monday evening had to be postponed till 1.30pm on Tuesday. Still, tournament director Olympian Hanif Khan briefed the umpires, coaches, managers and team captains on Monday morning as all the 10 participating teams arrived in Karachi.

Tuesday's programme also includes an age scrutiny of all team members by the scrutiny committee headed by Chief Selector Hasan Sardar along with a Nadra team from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
