Inter-varsity basketball begins

KARACHI, Feb 22 Sir Syed, Greenwich and NED Universities moved up in the Inter-university Zone G basketball championship registering victories over their opponents on the opening day on Monday.

Sir Syed University overcame Institute of Business Management 45-40 in the pool A match played at the NED University court.

In the other matches, Greenwich University chalked up 65-39 victory over PAF Kiet while hosts NED University thrashed Aga Khan University 54-14.

Nine universities including one outstation are competing in the event. They have been divided in two pools.

A NED University, Aga Khan University, Iqra University, Sir Syed University and Institute of Business Management.

B Karachi University, Lasbella University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences, PAF Kiet and Greenwich. Top two teams of the event will qualify for the final round to be played at Lahore from March 2.

Tuesday's fixtures Sir Syed University v Iqra University 11.30am; Karachi University v Lasbella University 3.00pm.
