Claim to Fame eyes Sanghar Cup

Published August 16, 2009

KARACHI, Aug 15 Four-year-old bay filly Claim To Fame is aspiring to claim The Sanghar Cup should she overcome opponents in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Race Club on Sunday.

After returning with flying colours in The Fantastic Stakes in the last meeting held on Aug 9 posting an authoritative 11 lengths victory, she seems poised to add another feather to her cap.

There are eight contenders in fray for the crown in the handicap race restricted for four-year-old and upwards horses to be run over seven furlongs.

Her likely challengers are bay Ikhtiar who has shown considerable improvement in the recent past and filly Sweet Girl.

In one goes by the current form, three-year-old bay colt Army Of One has an outright chance to land The Independence Day Cup - a term race for three-year-old colts and fillies.

He, however, faces a stiff challenge from three-year-old bay filly Millions In Mind to accomplish the task. Both Army Of One and Millions In Mind belonged to the stables of trainer M. Rafiq K.

They are likely to be chased by filly My Opinion.

A full house is expected to witness the meeting which is part of Independence Day celebrations. Apart from The Sanghar Cup and The Independence Day Cup, The Youngster Cup was scratched at the last moment for want of competition.

Three-year-old chestnut filly Blanchine is again rated to pick up spoils in the fifth race where 15 horses are to face the starter barring last minute withdrawls.

The racing fraternity believes that the filly had a suspect run in the last meeting and it failed to deliver losing to Be Parwah by five lengths.

Raven Pass and Admire Moon are tipped to battle it out for the remaining two slots.

Four-year-old chestnut colt Bam Bamm looks outstanding in the sixth race and may prevail over Lil Kimm and Savera.

Eager saint should make amends to land the opener while bay Khan Jee and mare Ouija Board should repeat their winning performance in the following two races. The Conqueror may oblige punters in the concluding race.

A card of eight races including two cups has been drawn for the meeting. The first race starts at 1.30pm.
