Basketball event reaches semis stage

KARACHI, Oct 19 Shanil Poonja scored 32 points to help the British International School (BIS) record a thrilling 54-50 win over Karachi Grammar School, as his team qualified for the AKU Inter-School U-17 Basketball Tournament semi-finals at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium here on Monday.

BIS will now face The City School PAF Chapter in the semi-finals. The City School thrashed Pakistan Steel Cadet College 77-39 in another quarter-final. Jauhar Hasnain (31) and Okasha Siddiqui (28) played pivotal role in The City School triumph.

Meanwhile, Shah Wilayat Public School also confirmed their place in the last-four phase as they registered a 32-27 win over The City School (Darakhshan) in the third last-eight encounter. Osama Mohsin (13) fared well for the winners.

Shah Wilayat will now take on Habib Public School for a place in the summit clash of the event.

The HPS overpowered Bayview High School registering a 30-16 victory in the fourth quarter-final. At the end of the first half, Bayview led the first half 11-7. Hammad Saeed performed brilliantly for the winning side, scoring 20 points. —Agencies
