RAWALPINDI, May 3: In a looting spree, robbers took away about Rs1 million in three different incidence in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Saturday.

The police launched a hunt for the culprits in Rawalpindi from 7pm to midnight but did not succeed in apprehending any culprit.

Hassan Mehmood was deprived of Rs0.5 million by four unidentified persons in RA Bazaar area while he was going home after drawing the money from a bank on the Mall.

Mehmood told police that the dacoits pounced him when he was alighting from his car. The bandits, who had been probably following him from the bank, escaped in a blue car.

SHO RA Bazaar police station said five teams had been formed to trace the culprits.

The second robbery was committed on Bank Road in Saddar area soon after the RA Bazaar incident. Four unidentified bandits looted Rs0.48 million from a man who was returning from a bank situated along the Mall.

Mohammad Ishaq Khan, a businessman, reported to the Cantonment police that he was on his way to his office on foot when the unidentified men in a car intercepted him and held him on gunpoint.

The robbers then struck at F-10 Markaz, Islamabad. Zahid Nawaz Shah, a bank manager, was coming out of his bank after drawing salary when two unidentified men pulled up in a Suzuki car and put pistols on his head. They escaped after snatching Rs15,000 and a wrist watch from him.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS: Two people died and three injured in separate traffic accidents on Saturday, police said.

Muzamil Hussain died and two other members of his family, Shakila Kausar and Shakil, were injured when the Hiace wagon in which they were travelling hit a tractor-trolley due to brake-failure, near Soan. The wagon driver, identified as Arif, also received injuries.

A motorcyclist, Khayaban Iqbal, aged 22, was run over by a truck at Education Chowk in I-9. Iqbal died on the spot. Police claimed to have arrested the truck driver.
