Announced results show PPP wins five NA, 21 PA seats in Sindh

KARACHI, May 12: The Pakistan Peoples Party won a majority of the 10 National Assembly and 29 provincial assembly seats in Sindh whose unofficial results were announced on Sunday.

Elections were held on 60 NA and 128 PA seats in Sindh. Of the 10 NA seats, the PPP got five seats, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement bagged four while one seat was won by a Pakistan Muslim League-Functional candidate.

Twenty-one PA seats have been won by the PPP, six by the MQM and one each by a PML-N man and an independent candidate.

The PPP’s Ali Muhammad Mahar won NA-201 (Ghotki-II) by securing 124,453 votes, the PML-F’s Ghous Bux Mahar won NA-203 (Shikarpur-cum-Sukkur-cum-Larkana) with 77,065 votes, the PPP’s Makhdoom Amin Fahim NA-218 (Matiari-cum-Hyderabad) with 95,843 votes, the PPP’s Syed Naveed Qamar Shah NA-222 (Tando Muhammad Khan-cum-Hyderabad-cum-Badin) with 99,914 votes, the PPP’s Sadiq Memom NA-237 (Thatta-I) with 86,705 votes, the MQM’s Sufyan Yousuf NA-247 (Karachi-IX) with 125,443 votes, the PPP’s Shah Jahan Baloch NA-248 (Karachi-X) (84,530), the MQM’s Dr Farooq Sattar NA-249 (Karachi-XI) with 109,952 votes, the MQM’s Syed Ali Raza Abidi NA-251 (Karachi-XII) with 81,075 votes and the MQM’s Rashid Godil NA-252 (Karachi-XIII) with 90,827 votes.

According to the unofficial results, the 21 PPP candidates are: Jam Mehtab Dahar won PS-5 (34,157 votes), Ali Nawaz Mahar PS-6 (53,977), Ahmed Ali Pitafi PS-7 (40,788), Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar PS-8 (61,712), Mir Mumtaz Hussain Khan PS-13 (20,486), Dr Suhrab Sarki PS-15 (33,504), Haji Abdul Rauf Khosa PS-18 (25,933), Tariq Mehmood Arain PS-24 (35,517), Ghulam Qadir Chandio PS-27 (41,435), Makhdoom Jamil Zaman PS-43 (46306), Syed Zia Abbas Shah PS-51 (46,548), Imdad Ali Pitafi PS-52 (44,004), Aijaz Shah Bukhari PS-53 (37578), Abdul Karim Soomro PS-54 (35,323), Mir Abdullah Bux Talpur PS-56 (35,605), Syed Ali Mardan Shah PS-70 (43,704)), Sikandar Ali Shoro PS-71 (43,735), Faqirdad Khoso PS-72 (42,397), Owais Muzaffar PS-88 (28,576), Muhammad Jawaid PS-108 (31,335) and Ms Saniya PS-109 (53,926).

The MQM candidates are Rehan Zafar who won PS-104 by securing 63,512 votes, Muhammad Azeem Farooqi PS-107 (71,622), Mohammad Dilawar PS-110 (46,663), Mohammad Kamran PS-111 (59,838), Mehmood Abdul Razzaq PS-116 (47,284) and Nishat Zia Qadri PS-120 (94,689 votes).

The PML-N’s Irfanullah Marwat won PS-114 constituency. He got 37,030 votes against the MQM’s Rauf Siddiqui (30,355).

Syed Aijaz Ali Shah Sheerzi, who had contested elections as an independent candidate, won PS-84. He bagged 41,805 votes.

The returning office of NA-251 wrote an additional note that the result from polling station No 104 was not received as the SHO of the Ferozabad police station informed the RO that a case was registered against the presiding officer and other staff on a charge of rigging. Results from three other polling stations were yet to be received. The registered number of voters in these polling stations was 6,501 and since the wining margin between the contestants was beyond the votes registered on the polling stations in question, the result was being announced in order to avoid a delay.
