Balochistan lawyers boycott courts over former AG’s non-recovery
QUETTA: Lawyers in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan boycotted courts on Tuesday over the non-recovery of former advocate general Salahuddin Mengal who was abducted in early April from the provincial capital, DawnNews reported.
Lawyers in Quetta, Mastung, Khuzdar, Kalat and others areas of Balochistan observed the call to boycott courts.
Mengal was kidnapped on April 3 by unknown gunmen from Quetta’s Sariab Road. He was on his way home from the Balochistan High Court when armed men stopped his vehicle at Sariab Road and kidnapped him.
Lawyers practicing in the province have been protesting against the kidnapping every now and then during the past month and a half.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) announced that lawyers would boycott court proceedings from May 21 to May 24 in the southwestern province to register their protest against Mengal’s non-recovery.
BBA’s General Secretary Ataullah Lango in a statement said the lawyers’ protests would intensify if Mengal was not recovered.
Another lawyers’ body threatened the provincial government that if Mengal was not recovered, countrywide protests would be carried out.
