Two-day golf clinic for kids begins today
KARACHI, July 2: Two-day Ufone Golf Kids Clinic, the first of its kind in the country, gets into action at the Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Wednesday.
The programme was unveiled at a luncheon press conference addressed by representatives of sponsors at a local hotel on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Amir Pasha, head of PR and CSR of the cellular firm, said some 50 youth in two age groups — 5 to 9 years and 10 to 15 years — have been enrolled for the clinic who will be taught finer points of the game by reputed golfers of the country.
He said the clinic has been designed and developed with a view to generate interest among youngsters and help create a reservoir for future.
The firm, he disclosed, has been involved in the game for quite sometime and supporting the country’s leading golfers including Pakistan No 1 Shabbir Iqbal, Mohammad Munir, Matloob Ahmed, Mohammad Nazir, Imdad Hussain, Talib Hussain, Qamar Hussain, Mohammad Naqas, Pervez Akhtar and Azher Shah Bukhari.
Of these, Nazir and Bokhari are USGTF ((United States Golf Teachers Federation) certified coaches and were recently sent to the US to polish their skills. They along with Shabbir and Matloob will impart training to the youth.
The training sessions will be run from 6.30am to 12.30noon on both days.
Besides the officials, the ceremony was attended among others by several leading golfers except Shabbir Iqbal who missed out due to illness.
