Fauzia Kasuri rejoins PTI

LAHORE: After over a month of disillusionment and disagreements with senior party leadership, senior leader Fauzia Kasuri announced Monday that she was rejoining the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).

DawnNews reported Kasuri, the former head of the women’s wing, was being given the position of Adviser on Overseas Pakistanis to party chairman Imran Khan after her decision to rejoin the party.

One of the party’s first few members, Kasuri had decided to quit the PTI on June 5 after the party refused to grant her the promised reserved women's seat.

The party officially claimed she was not yet cleared to contest in the intra-party polls due to the dual nationality prohibition, and that she hadn’t given up her nationality in time to be qualified for the elections.

Kasuri, however, had alleged that the Tehrik-i-Insaf has been “held hostage by a mafia.” She, along with thousands of other party members, had become victims of that mafia’s injustices, she had said.

The senior leader, however, confirmed in a message posted Monday on social media website Twitter that she was rejoining the party she had been working with for the past 16 years.

“I am PTI. I have come back to a party that I was with on day one. I have rejoined for my ISF children and women of PTI,” she tweeted.
