THATTA: Muttahida backs ’91 water accord
THATTA, May 18: The deputy convener, Coordination Committee, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Farooq Sattar, has said that the Federal Government should honour the 1991 water accord, and added that the greater Thal canal was in violation of the 1991 accord.
He said this while talking to journalists at the Thatta Press Club on Saturday.
He said the Muttahida believes that the federal government should hold only three portfolios — defence, foreign affairs and finance — while the rest should be transferred to the provinces.
He said notwithstanding the fact that the Muttahida was a part and parcel of the government, it would never betray the confidence of Sindh.
He said that the people of Sindh should identify those politicians who betrayed them and sold out the interests of the province, and added that it should identify those who were really protecting their rights.
On this occasion, 44 councillors of various union councils announced to join the Muttahida.
JSQM RALLY: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz activists took out a procession here on Friday to protest against construction of the greater Thal canal.
Led by JSQM chairman Bashir Qureshi, the protesters marched through the main thoroughfares of the city and later staged a sit-in on the National Highway.
