Two fall in Gilgit River

GILGIT, July 23: Two people sitting on rooftop of a Gilgit-bound wagon fell into the River Indus at Raikote Bridge.

Police said the incident happened when the driver of the speeding van applied brakes suddenly.

They said the van was being driven by its conductor who was not good at driving.

They identified the victims as Ubaidullah and Farhad, residents of Gohar Abad.

Police said due to unavailability of seats inside the van the two were sitting on the rooftop.

Local people started efforts to fish out the bodies. However, they were yet to be traced till filing of this report late on Tuesday night.

Gunar Farm police station officials said case of negligence had been registered against the van driver and his conductor.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 recovered two bodies from the Gilgit River at Danyor and Pari Bangla areas.

The bodies were taken to DHQ hospital.
