As another slew of fashion weeks/events are about to commence just a few weeks down the line, models, designers, event managers and organisers gear up to make the Fall 2013 season fashionably memorable.

The date for PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2013 has already been announced and will be held from Oct 10-12 in Lahore while it was announced on the concluding day of Fashion Pakistan Week 5 (Apr 9-10) that FPW6 would return in the fall. But mum’s the word on this front so far. Islamabad Fashion Week-Chapter 3 is scheduled to take place from Oct 3-5 in the capital city whereas work is also underway on Style 360’s Pantene Bridal Couture Week and details are being withheld from the media at the moment, but it promises to be even bigger this time round. Probably the most-awaited singular fashion event was the Veet Celebration of Beauty show which will have already taken place at the Expo Centre in Karachi on Aug 24 by the time you read this in print.

The Veet Show has been attending to the needs of our fashion industry for some time now by infusing fresh new female faces from diverse backgrounds. The event is widely acknowledged as a successful venture and this year’s event was hosted by celebrated TV and film star Aamina Sheikh and Azfar Rehman with the entertainment extravaganza featuring vintage and contemporary fashion in four segments with designers such as Khadijah Shah, Sadaf Malaterre, Ali Xeeshan and Sana Safinaz with celebrity showstoppers such as Zeba Bakhtiar, Humaima Malick and Nadia Hussain. Music and dance performances by Ali Azmat, Zoe Viccaji, Mehwish Hayat and TV and film star Sara Loren (formerly known as Mona Lisa); music and dance entertainment and a beauty awards segment were also featured. The show was conceptualised and styled by the creative team at Nabila.

A total of eight beauty awards were presented to the best and brightest of Pakistan’s fashion, beauty and entertainment industries. The categories included Most Beautiful Skin (nominees: Ayyan, Ayesha Linnea, Mahnoor Baloch, Rabia Butt and Juggun Kazim), Most Beautiful Smile (nominees: Mehwish Hayat, Humaima Malick, Mahira Khan, Mahreen Raheel and Syra Yousaf), Best Posture (nominees: Nadia Ali, Amna Ilyas, Rubab Adnan, Faiza Ansari and Cybil Chowdhry), Miss Elegance (nominees: Iman Ali, Aaminah Haq, Mahnoor Baloch, Sonia Jehan and Reema), Miss Catwalk (nominees: Mehreen Syed, Fauzia, Amna Ilyas, Iraj Manzoor and Faiza Ansari), Miss Photogenic (nominees: Aamina Sheikh, Ayyan, Amna Ilyas, Saima Azhar and Nooray Bhatti), Most Promising Model of the Year (nominees: Saima Azhar, Sehrish, Sana Sarfaraz, Sana Khan and Huma) and Beauty of the Year (nominees: Ayyan, Ayesha Linnea, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malik and Mehvish Hayat).

The awards categories were judged by a panel of judges consisting of fashion and beauty industry experts from all across Pakistan.

The PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week held last year in Lahore spanned four days and comprised mainstream local and international designers. The Pakistan Fashion Design Council has announced the third consecutive season scheduled to take place in Lahore from Oct 10-12, and the event is supposed to feature 16 bridal showcases presenting both contemporary and traditional Pakistani bridal fashions, jewellery and make-up trends. The models will be styled by the teams of three leading make-up artists and stylists.

The Lahore-based council, which also hosts the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week every year, has yet to announce the names of the participating designers and make-up artists for its bridal week, which will happen in September, according to a reliable source.

It was earlier this year that Fashion Pakistan Week’s fifth season (April 9-10) showcased 27 established and emerging designers as well as fashion houses over a span of two days. During the proceedings, awards were also given to Emraan Rajput (Emerging Talent) and Maheen Khan (Diamond Designer Award).

FPW 5 signed off with a promise to return in Fall 2013, but so far an official announcement is still awaited by the Karachi-based Fashion Pakistan Council (usually the event takes place twice a year following the pattern of a summer and winter season). Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope to hear more on this soon.

Pantene Bridal Couture Week is truly a one of its kind bridal fashion week with an obvious glamour quotient and one that packs a strong entertainment punch. The theme follows the rule of organising a fashion gala in such a manner that each day appears like a mehndi, shaadi or valima event.

PBCW started some three years ago and is held regularly twice a year in Karachi and Lahore. The three-day event held in Karachi earlier this year (April 19-21) hosted 18 designers including Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor (India) and a performance by Fuzon. The choreography was by HSY and hair and make-up by Saba Ansari of Sabs Salon. This year the organisers plan a mammoth undertaking around December by reportedly taking the event outside Pakistan.
