Traffic police in Hyderabad

I WOULD like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to the way the traffic police in Hyderabad are openly involved in corruption. They could be easily seen taking Rs10 to Rs20 as tip from Suzuki van drivers every time they cross their chowrangi and, in return, get favour of overloading where people are not only allowed to stand on the rails but are forced to sit on the roof.

The notorious chowrangis are Gul Centre, Wahdat Colony and Giddu Chowk in Hyderabad. In addition to this traffic police constables could be seen getting perks from car owners for letting them park cars in ‘No-parking’ areas at the Chandini shopping area in Saddar, Hyderabad.

This system has resulted in routine traffic jams as people have no fear of traffic constables and know that they could easily bribe them and go unscathed.

The relevant authorities should take notice and highlight the irregularities of the traffic police so that they may realise their mistakes and mend their ways.
