Two soldiers, 4 militants killed in S. Waziristan

LADHA, Aug 27: Two soldiers and four militants, said to be suicide bombers, were killed and nine soldiers were injured during a Taliban attack on an army checkpost in Sara Rogha area of South Waziristan on Monday-Tuesday night.

Asimullah Asim, a spokesman for the Mehsud Taliban, an offshoot of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan led by Hakeemullah Mehsud, told this correspondent that his group which was associated with late militant leader Waliur Rehman had attacked the post.

He said the attack had been ordered by Commander Khalid Mehsud alias Khan Said who had formed his own faction of Taliban after the killing of Waliur Rehman in a drone strike in May this year.Asim claimed that Taliban had captured weapons and ammunition and afflicted heavy casualties on security forces.

Officials said that about two dozens militants, four of them suicide bombers, stormed the checkpost in Sara Rogha in the Mehsud tribe-dominated area of South Waziristan. Troops at the post fired back and the ensuing clash continued for three hours in which both sides used heavy weapons.

Two suicide bombers were killed when they moved near the post and two others blew themselves up, causing damage to infrastructure.

One official said that two soldiers were killed and nine others injured. The injured soldiers were taken to Combined Military Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.

Security forces sealed roads leading to Sara Rogha and launched a search for assailants.
