Sweetshop in Attock burnt to ashes

ATTOCK, Sept 11: A famous sweetshop in Attock city completely burned down in a fire incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

The fire erupted inside the shop, Shireen Mehal, at the main bazaar Attock apparently due to a short circuit.

However, it gripped the entire three-storey shop after gas cylinders present in the shop exploded at around 4am.

Upon receiving information, the fire brigade units of Rescue 1122, the tehsil municipal administration (TMA) and local police rushed to the scene. Officials of the Sui gas pipeline limited and Wapda (Water and Power Development Authority) immediately disconnect the gas and electricity supply to the shop to avoid further damage.

Firefighters managed to control the fire after four hours and avoided spreading it to adjacent shops. However, the building completely burned down, and the loss is estimated at almost Rs8 million.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Iqbal also visited the site and asked the sweet house owners, Mohammad Arif and Mohammad Arshad, about the estimated loss.

Pakistan Muslim League-N’s city president, Sheikh Samdani and other party activists also arrived.

Talking to newsmen, local PML-N leaders said they would request the Punjab government to provide compensation to the victims as the shop’s owners had lost everything in the fire.
