Punjab cruise past Balochistan to reach final

KARACHI, Sept 14: Maintaining an unbeaten run in three games, holders Punjab cruised into the final of third Inter-provincial basketball championship at Arambagh floodlit court on Saturday, the penultimate day of the competition.

With two wins under their belt, formidable Punjab continued winning sequence inflicting a magnificent 66-44 defeat on Balochistan to keep a clean slate.

Punjab plays their last league match against Sindh Whites late Saturday night. The match will help determine top two places. The latter is also unbeaten in three games so far.

Playing aggressively, Punjab enjoyed clear edge over Balochistan and led 37-21 at half time.

Qamar Riaz starred for winners with 17. Kashif 10 and Zahid eight were other notable contributors for winners. Danish and Rashid shared 24 points amongst themselves for Balochistan while Ahmed Nawaz scored six.

Abdul Karim Mughal, Principal of the Physical Education College, graced the opening match of the day.

In the second match of the day, Sindh Greens notched up 78-34 victory over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a one-sided encounter.

The winners led 51-15 at interval.

Tashfeen top scored for winners with 24. Haroon and Shabbar scored eight points apiece. Haris scored 10 for losers.

Earlier, Sindh Whites outplayed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 87-47 in the third match on Friday evening. The winners led 48-23 at breather.

The triumph revolved around Ahad Javeri who mustered 24 points. Waleed 16 and Ali Raza 14 also performed equally well and were supported by Fahad Ahmed 10 and Ali Abid six.

Haris Khan 14, Wahab 10, Afnan and Zeeshan six apiece, were main scorers for losers.
