Anti-polio drive in Larkana to cover 2.9m children

LARKANA, Sept 18: Health managers of Larkana district have set a target of administering anti-polio drops to 2.9 million children during a campaign scheduled from Sept 30 to Oct 2.

In this connection, Larkana Deputy Commissioner Mirza Nasir Ali presided over a meeting of stakeholders here on Wednesday in his camp office where District Health Officer Dr Khalilullah Shaikh told the participants that 710 teams had been constituted to achieve the target.

Larkana was a polio-free district since June 2012, the DHO said, adding that so far stool samples of eight anti-flaccid paralysis (AFC) cases had been sent to the National Institute of Health Islamabad for examination and virus isolation.

The DC urged representatives of Unicef and WHO, health officials, NGOs’ and personnel of the district administration to play their role in eradicating the crippling disease.—BoC
