Cross-border shelling: Pakistan registers protest with Afghan diplomat

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan registered a strong protest with the Afghan Charge d’ Affaires over the unprovoked mortar shelling in North Waziristan by the Afghan Border Police on September 24, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The Afghan Charge d’ Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office on the evening of September 24 and the protest was lodged over the cross-border shelling which killed two civilians and injured another in the Bangi Dar area near the Afghan border.

In addition to conveying its concern over the cross-border shelling, the Government of Pakistan also called on Afghan authorities to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The Foreign Office reiterated that such incidents undermined border coordination and cooperation mechanism in place and were detrimental to cooperative ties between the two neighbouring countries.
