Doctors protest against colleague’s kidnapping

QUETTA, Sept 28: The Pakistan Medical Association organised a demonstration outside the Balochistan Assembly building here on Saturday in protest against the kidnapping of heart specialist Dr Munaf Tareen.

Dr Tareen was kidnapped from Quetta on Sept 18.

Protesting doctors marched from the civil hospital to the assembly building. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans for the release of Dr Tareen.

Addressing the protesters, Dr Haqdad Tareen, Dr Najibullah Achakzai, Dr Sufi Akbar, Dr Ataullah Bizenjo and Dr Iqbal Tareen alleged that some officials of security agencies were involved in kidnapping for ransom cases.

They said most abductees had been freed only after payment of ransom.

They called upon the government to take action against those involved in the kidnapping of doctors and to take measures for their protection.
