Haj pilgrims face chaos at airport

THIS is regarding the security arrangements at the airport for people who are returning after performing Haj.

It was a shocking sight. People had gathered in droves to receive their relatives.

There was complete chaos; men, women and children of all ages, some on wheel chairs were claustrophobically thronged in front of the railing extending right up to the parking lot.

There were no checks or surveillance. People were occupying the steps leading up to the first floor, while visitors ascended and descended with great difficulty.

It was absolutely astonishing to see an indifferent attitude of the security staff.

Passengers emerging from the lounge had to make way by pushing and shoving to the exit.

On top of that taxi drivers were hyperactive, literally pulling, snatching away loaded trolleys, hand carry luggage from the already dazed, bewildered travellers.

To avoid a catastrophe, visitors, taxi drivers, etc., must not be allowed to enter the veranda or the reception area at the time of arrivals.

I hope that remedial measures would be taken on an emergency basis.
