Kohat admin asked to shelve Jarma park plan

KOHAT, Oct 25: The local people have asked the district administration not to go ahead with its plan to construct the proposed Rs60 million Ahmed Faraz Park in the remote Jarma area near a graveyard.

They demanded of the administration to construct the park along the Indus Highway where the government owned thousands of acres of fertile land. “It will be viable because people will have no difficulty in visiting the park as it is a safe place and near the city,” they said.

The people said the proposed park in Jarma was not a viable option and would be wastage of precious taxpayers’ money like KDA and company parks built earlier.

They appealed to the deputy speaker in the KP assembly, Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi and the commissioner Kohat division Jalaluddin to intervene and change the place of the park.

Sources said that Jarma area was a danger zone from a security point of view as it was away from the population on a mountain. “The project is not viable as engineers will find it difficult to dig the place since the area is rocky and dry unsuitable for growing plants and grass. They said that water scarcity was also a problem in the area.

The park to be built on 230 kanals was approved by the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Barrister Masud Kausar, who is the brother of late legendry poet, Ahmed Faraz. —Correspondent
