UN urges dialogue to reduce LoC tensions

UNITED NATIONS, Oct 26: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged Pakistan and India to resolve the ongoing tensions along the Line of Control through dialogue.

Answering a question on Friday, the UN chief’s spokesman, Martin Nesirky, said: “We are obviously aware of these reports (of exchange

of fire along the LoC) over the past few days, and obviously not just the past few days.

“This needs to be dealt with by the two parties in a peaceful manner.”

He said the discussions that took place (between the leaders of Pakistan and India) on the margins of the UN General Assembly meeting last month were important, and “it is precisely that kind of a dialogue which the secretary-general would wish to encourage”.
