Seven ‘model towns’ planned for Thatta

THATTA, Oct 29: The implementation of a master plan to convert five coastal talukas and the twin towns of Thatta and Makli into model towns has been initiated and within the financial year 2014-15 the citizens of these seven towns will be able to avail themselves of all civic facilities and improve their standard of living in Thatta district.

This was stated by Hyderabad commissioner Jamal Mustafa Syed here on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting of officers involved in carrying out various schemes pertaining to improvement of communication, health, education, drainage, water supply, police, local bodies, sports, constructions of mosques, public parks, women welfare centres, etc.

He stressed timely preparation of a feasibility report and PC-I of the development schemes to be implemented in Ghorabari, Baghan, Garho, Keti Bunder and Var towns besides Thatta and Makli.

He said that so far various departments had identified more than 100 such development schemes for the seven future model towns and hoped that further reports and suggestions would also be furnished within the stipulated time so as the public benefited from the facilities by 2015.

He suggested that the structures of buildings capable of being used for a long time should be repaired and properly rehabilitated as per demands of model towns.

The commissioner directed deputy commissioner of Thatta Agha Shah Nawaz Babar and superintendent engineer of works and services Nizam-ud-Din Shaikh to finalise the documentation at the earliest.

ADC-I Abid Saleem Qureshi, director for design of public health engineering Hyderabad Arbab Maqsood and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
