Rehan leads Bahawalpur fightback
KARACHI, Oct 31: Bahawalpur, inspired by a solid knock from veteran Rehan Rafiq, reached 232-6 in their first innings on the opening day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship fixture against Karachi Blues here at the National Stadium on Thursday.
Put in to bat by Blues’ skipper Naved Khan, Bahawalpur stuttered to 135-5 before left-handed Rehan (84 not out off 158 balls, 12 boundaries) found a reliable partner in captain Imranullah Aslam. The pair added 72 runs in 58 minutes when Imranullah was trapped lbw by slow left-armer Faraz Ahmed Khan for 32.
Opener Fazal Subhan struck a fine 133 to guide Karachi Whites to 301-6 after Islamabad inserted them into bat at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.
Fazal, who laced his 219-ball innings in 281 minutes with 19 fours, added 150 for the third wicket with Saad Ali (75 not out off 165 balls, 12 boundaries).
Sialkot reached 213-6 after being asked to bat first by Peshawar at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Play was curtailed to only 37 overs at the Pindi Cricket Stadium where Abbottabad struggled to 146-7 after being invited to bat first by Rawalpindi skipper Babar Naeem.
Haziq Habibullah (5-81 in 29 overs) and Mohammad Rameez (4-78 in 34.5 overs) helped Multan dismiss Quetta for 244 at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Opener Shahid Siddique scored a patient 83 (219 balls, 13 fours) as Faisalabad collected 198-7 against Lahore Shalimar at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
