Cleric targets Musharraf, capital police
ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: The cleric of Lal Masjid delivered a speech against the capital police and former president Pervez Muharraf during the Friday prayers, said sources in the police.
The sources said after the former president was granted bail in the murder case of Abdul Rasheed Ghazi and his mother, the police expected such a speech and had mounted vigilance in and around Lal Masjid to get the details.
During the speech, Maulana Abdul Aziz criticised the role of the capital police in investigating the murder case against the former military ruler.
He said it was the responsibility of the investigating agency to collect evidence of the case but instead of doing their job the police asked the complainant to produce the evidence and eyewitnesses.
Inspector General of Police Sikanadar Hayat, when contacted, showed ignorance about the matter.
