Multan facing defeat against Lahore Shalimar

KARACHI, Nov 10: Lahore Shalimar, inspired by a remarkable century from tailender Mohammad Saeed, put themselves in sight of victory against Multan in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship fixture in Lahore on Sunday.

Replying to the visitors’ paltry first-innings score of 69 at the LCCA Ground, Lahore Shalimar reached 282 in their first innings after starting the day three of the four-day match at 202-8.

After losing the ninth wicket at 206, Shalimar’s last pair of Saeed and Mohammad Bilawal put on 76 in 41 minutes with No 9 Saeed scoring 113 off 114 balls with the aid of 16 fours and four sixes.

Multan, beginning their second innings 213 runs behind, went to stumps at 223-4 with the fifth-wicket pair of Ahmed Rasheed (78) and Abdul Rehman Muzammil (35) involved in an unbroken stand of 106.

Rawalpindi were 281-7 after Peshawar secured a lead of 63 by making 243 in their first innings at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Iftikhar Ahmed contributed an undefeated 92 (107 balls, 15 fours) for the visitors.

Sialkot made 156-2 after hosts Abbottabad posted 513-7 declared in their first innings at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Hyderabad totalled 330 to claim a slim 17-run on the first innings against Islamabad at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. The home team then made 25-1 at close of play.In the matches ending on Saturday, both Karachi Blues and Karachi Whites scored innings’ victories, over Lahore Ravi and Quetta respectively, to claim 10 points apiece including one bonus point.
