Two-day ban on pillion riding

LAHORE, Nov 13: Punjab Law and Local Government Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan says ban on pillion riding has been imposed on Muharram 9 and 10 in Punjab.

Talking to the media here on Wednesday, he said 13 districts — Bhakkar, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Muzaffargarh, Lahore, Multan, DG Khan, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Rahimyar Khan and Pakpattan — had been declared sensitive, says a press release.

A total of 79,333 police officers and officials were deputed for the protection of 1,338 processions and 3,766 majalis on Muharram 8.

Rana Sanaullah said house arrest orders had been issued for as many as 300 people. Ten people had been arrested on various violations and two cases were registered for creating law and order situation.

He said a ban had been imposed on 1,414 ulema in view of their provocative speeches.

Rana Sana said the culprits involved in Gujranwala incident would be brought to book.
