Hockey field: KHA’s indifference

THE hockey complex in Block 5 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Karachi, deserves the attention of our past stalwarts and heroes who are advocating a change in the administration of the Hockey Federation.

A visit will reveal that the ground is reduced to hardly 40 to 50 yards, having two broken and shabby goal posts. Large areas are being utilised as marriage lawns.

Moreover, the small little ground cannot be used for practising as it has an uneven surface and also horrifying is the fact that pieces of broken glasses and bones are strewed across the playing area.

Presumably, the rental income of the marriage lawns are being utilised by the Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) officials who have quite a large office in one corner of the ground and one can see the large-bellied officials just gossiping and having tea and snacks in the evenings.

I haven’t seen any youngsters playing hockey in the ground since long. I regret that the club hockey in Karachi has died an unnatural death.
