India’s fitness trainer quits

NEW DELHI, June 8: Adrian le Roux has quit as the Indian cricket team’s fitness trainer to return home to work with the South African side.

Le Roux, who took over the India job early last year, had faced an uncertain future because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had not announced whether it would extend his contract.

“He has not informed us so far that he is quitting,” BCCI secretary K. Nair said on Sunday.

“We were planning to extend his contract and were waiting for our working committee meeting on June 30 to take a final decision,” he said.

Le Roux earned praise for improving the fitness of the Indian team, who reached this year’s World Cup final before losing to Australia.

Le Roux, who took the India job after working with South African local side Free State, has been given a two-year contract by the South African cricket authorities and will join the side from their tour of England later this month.—Reuters
