Held militants reveal name of their chief in Swabi

SWABI, Nov 18: Police claimed to have arrested two militants, involved in subversive activities in the district.

The arrested militants disclosed that they were directed by their district chief to carry out terrorist activities in the area, district police officer Sajjad Khan told a press conference here on Monday.

He termed the arrest of militants a major breakthrough, saying they traced the people, who were responsible for various sabotage incidents in the district.

The DPO said that the two militants, riding a motorcycle, were arrested by police near Jaganat Bridge. An unregistered motorbike, a bomb ready for planting, two hand grenades, two pistols and a large number of bullets were recovered from their possession, he added. The bomb was later defused safely by the bomb disposal squad.

The official said that the arrested persons were identified as Arshad Khan and Anwar Wajidullah. Both of them belonged to Mohmand Agency, he said, adding that presently they were living in Jehangira village. The official said that for the first time militants claimed that they had a proper organisation and chief in the district. They revealed during interrogation that Shah Jehan, a resident of Jehangira village, was their district chief, he added.

Mr Khan said that they raided the residence of Shah Jehan in Jehangira and recovered two bombs from his house but he managed to escape.

He claimed that the arrested militants were involved in killing of several people including Wali Khan, a member of local peace committee, Haji Umara Khan of Dagai, Sher Baz of Mohmand Agency, Umara Khan of Swabi and Mohammad Rehman of Yar Hussain.

Pervez Khan, a former employee of a secret agency, and Yousuf of Nowshera district were also attacked and injured by the arrested militants, the police official said. He added that they also planted bomb in the house of Advocate Wazir Mohammad.

It is pertinent to mention here that militants attacked a police post in Darang area on Sunday. Two policemen were killed and the post was destroyed in the attack.

However, police couldn’t trace the attackers.

The two alleged militants were arrested during routine checking by police after the Darang incident.
