‘7.1m people diabetic’

KARACHI, Nov 19: Around 10 per cent of Pakistan’s adult population is diabetic and the country could become the world’s fourth largest diabetic nation according to international estimates, experts said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Some 7.1 million diabetic patients are in Pakistan and as many are in pre-diabetes condition, ones who don’t know as yet about the disease they got inflicted of,” said Dr Zahid Mian, a member of the Pakistan Endocrine Society. “The number of diabetics in Pakistan is estimated to grow up to 114 million by 2030,” he said. Dr Najmul Islam and Prof Yaqoob Hamdani also spoke.—Staff Reporter
